The Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) is the leading forum for international exchange and collaboration in social entrepreneurship and social investment. It has been hosted on six continents, and once before in Africa, but this is the first time it will be held in a developing country. And as the forum enters its second decade, hosting it in Ethiopia provides a unique opportunity to create a truly global social enterprise movement that can share experience, build networks and deliver solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
British Council will be hosting the SEWF in October 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in partnership with the Social Enterprise World Forum CIC. The event will support the growth and development of social enterprises throughout the world. It is expected to attract 1000+ social enterprise leaders, policy makers, development partners, private sector representatives, academics, practitioners and supporters from all around the world. The International SEWF will comprise conference sessions, networking and social functions.
British Council ambition for the event will be to transform the social enterprise ecosystem in the host country – as major driver for growth and transformation, as a catalyst for new policies which create an environment in which social enterprises flourish across the African continent as well as building the capacity of social enterprises, raising their profile and capturing imaginations across the continent from consumers to policymakers and beyond.
The objectives for the event include ensuring accessibility to all social enterprise leaders, policy-makers, practitioners and supporters. It also includes connecting people across Africa and the world, between advanced and developing economies. The event will act as a platform to showcase and celebrate successful social enterprises in Ethiopia and wider Africa region while creating opportunities for the best social enterprises in the world to support sustainable development.
The SEWF activities will bring together stakeholders from Ethiopia, the wider Africa region, UK and from around the globe. Ensuring wide public engagement with the project; effective use of social media to generate interest, debate and active engagement with the issues; ensuring clear, consistent and engaging content and messaging that reflects British Council and the global social enterprise agency’s values.
